O noble fool! A worthy fool! Motley's the only wear.
I am ambitious for a motley coat.
My toes are frozen. I should put on socks.

It's Pearl Harbor Day, which I thought ought to be mentioned.  I don't really have anything insightful to say about it, but there it is.  I've been reading An Army at Dawn which is about the campaigns through North Africa during World War II so I should be all in the WWII mindset, but I'm not really.  I just spent the past 3 hours reading LJ and adding books to my profile at LibraryThing which is both entrancing and evil.  And for which I totally blame [info]koshka_the_cat.  My name is anomilygrace over there as well so if you have a profile, let me know so I can see your books.  *grin*  It's almost as good as browsing through other people's bookshelves except for the not being able to borrow the books part.  That and the tempting little links to Amazon and B&N are pretty cool.  Except that I'm not buying myself any books.

Speaking of Amazon, my brother's wishlist only has items over $170 on it.  I'm wondering where he thinks I work (for now).  I think I'm going back to my original plan of getting him Firefly.  His girlfriend's wishlist has Britney Spears perfume on it.  *headdesk*  I don't even know where to start for that one.  I'd send her BPAL, but I doubt she'd appreciate it.

I want to see Narnia and Brokeback Mountain so badly...and Memoirs of a Geisha though I'm a bit put out by the lack of a Japanese actress in the main roles.  Ziyi Zhang is lovely, but she doesn't look Japanese at all.  Ah well, beautiful kimonos at least...

Finally I am dreadfully sad that Project Runway is starting a new season tonight, and I have no way to watch it.  Sushi might take care of this disappointment, but that's so not happening.

I've got to check out this LibraryThing link you have here-sounds interesting and like something I would be completely obsessed with. :)

It's excellent! I've been meaning to catalog my books for a while and this way is so nice and easy. :) If you sign up, let me know what your profile name is!
8th-Dec-2005 05:12 am (UTC)
I'm signed up as my_belle_ on there too. I haven't added any books yet, that'll be something I'll need to do on a Saturday (like this Saturday!)
Maybe if it's slow at work tomorrow I can start adding some books...
*resists urge to do it tonight*

:P
8th-Dec-2005 05:39 pm (UTC)
Well, you can always go through other peoples' 'catalogs' and add the books they have on there. That's what I did all yesterday with Katherine's.
8th-Dec-2005 12:34 am (UTC)
Must resist LibraryThing! I already have so many things I don't have time to update! And I have a ton of books!

Britney Spears purfume? Ick!

I'm curious about Brokeback Mountain - and I want to see Narnia and King Kong, though I'm not as excited about Narnia as I thought I'd be. I'm psyched for Geisha too - I love Colleen Atwood and I loved the book.

The casting doesn't bother me that much. I mean, it is acting. Catherine Zeta Jones is Welsh, but she's played Hispanic in Zorro. Summer Glau isn't Russian and non-Native Americans often play Native Americans - it happens often enough that I guess I felt it was much the same!

I'm psyched for Project Runway. Don't worry about missing it - they tend to replay these things over and over again, so you'll catch it eventually!
8th-Dec-2005 02:19 am (UTC)
But once the initial investment of time is done, you only have to update when you get a new book - plus, most of your costuming books you can just add from my or Katherine's list...so that would be even faster... *tempts*

I totally get your point about the casting, and that the point is for the actor to act. And you are definitely right. It is the same. But for some reason that I can't put my finger on, it rubs me the wrong way. I still want to see it though, and I don't think it's going to affect my enjoyment of the movie - it's just something I'm slightly obsessing over. :) I loved the book too - I pulled it out to read the other day, but now I can't decide if I want to read it now or after the movie comes out. I think after might be better.

Oh, I know - and if nothing else, I can watch it when it's on DVD, I just loved the first season and want to watch it now. (What can I say, I'm from the MTV generation) hehehe
8th-Dec-2005 02:35 am (UTC)
I totally get what you mean! It does remind me though, of when Renee Zellweger was cast as Bridget Jones and all the Brits freaked out because they cast an American as Bridget. But she did just fine in the role and then people forgot about it! :-)

I'd definitely wait to reread - I still think I would have liked HP 3 more if I hadn't reread right before!
8th-Dec-2005 05:44 pm (UTC)
Ooh, that's true - I forgot about that brouhaha. I think I pinpointed that my issue with this particular casting is that Japanese and Chinese people often look very, very different, and the casting of several very Chinese-looking actresses in Japanese roles kind of perpetuates the image that Westerners have that all Asian people look the same. I suppose in that sense that it's different in my head from British/American cross casting or really any cross-casting in western Europe, but while countries can have a certain 'look,' it's rarely as defined as some of the Asian differences that Westerners just glance over.

I think I am going to wait to read Memoirs not only because of the book/movie comparison (which I think I'd be okay with - for all three LOTR movies, I reread the trilogy right before they came out) but also because I have too much else to read before then! I wish I was in a city that released it tomorrow!
8th-Dec-2005 06:41 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I certainly get that and I agree that you don't want to perpetuate that all Asians are the same or look the same. :-)
8th-Dec-2005 12:38 am (UTC)
I'm quite happy to take the blame for you signing up. Isn't it great? :)
8th-Dec-2005 02:12 am (UTC)
It really is! I have 168 books on there now with after going through just a few shelves of books (and taking the costume books we own in common from your list) so I think I'll be getting a membership soon. I'm so glad you found it!
8th-Dec-2005 01:07 am (UTC)
Hee hee! My Amazon wishlist has the SE Dressing a Galaxy on it, well, and the $50 edition too. But my mom will probably get the Henry VIII & his wives DVD so she can watch it too.
8th-Dec-2005 02:14 am (UTC)
I love your icon!

My Amazon list has a bunch of expensive stuff on it too - including the SE Dressing a Galaxy, but it also has tons of regular books, dvds, and cds so I figure it's all well and good. My brother has 3 things - the cheapest being $169. It's depressing. Oh well, near as I can tell, he stopped liking reading and can't bear to tell me. ;)
8th-Dec-2005 02:02 am (UTC)
I have a LibraryThing free account, but right now I'm much more entranced with Chain Reading.
8th-Dec-2005 02:15 am (UTC)
Oh no...I haven't even clicked the link, and I fear it. :)

Project Run Way ... Thanks for reminding me :)

Now I have to figure out how to add freinds on the Library Thing.
8th-Dec-2005 05:45 pm (UTC)
I think if you pull up someone's profile, there's an option on it to add them to your 'watched' list.

And do tell if Project Runway is good!

If no one has told you yet, this is linked from the LibraryThing Buzz page. (I was looking at it, said "I know her!" and clicked on your name.) You're efamous and should prepare for the adoring hordes. :-).
